After almost 60 years of serving the people of Zimbabwe and Zambia and the broader southern African region, routine monitoring of the majestic Kariba Dam has identified the need for rehabilitation works.
Timeframe
Large scale engineering works take several years and the KDRP is no exception to this. From start to finish the project will take approximately 10 years. The first few years focused on planning and preparation, including investigations to determine the full scope of the rehabilitation, Environmental and Social Impact Assessments and the procurement of consultants and contractors.
The actual works which started earlier this year, will take approximately eight years: three years for the plunge pool reshaping followed by five years for the spillway refurbishment.
