Victoria Falls/Big Tree

The Kariba Lake is designed to operate between levels 475.50m and 488.50m (with 0.70m freeboard) for hydropower generation.

The Lake level has been rising due to increase in Local rainfall activity, flows in the immediate streams and mainstream Zambezi River, closing the period under review at 476.83m (9.18% usable storage) on 15th February 2023, compared to 478.85m (23.47% usable storage) recorded on the same date last year.

The Zambezi River flows at Victoria Falls are steadily increasing, as the rain season progresses, closing the period under review at 1,323m3/s on 15th February 2023. The flow observed on the same date last year was 986m3/s.

The Zambezi River flows at Chavuma are in recession, closing the period under review at 289m3/s as of 13th July 2026, whilst last year on the same date it was at 291m3/s.
