Zambezi River Authority’s Second Classroom Block at Musisa Transforms Education for 8,200 Residents

The Zambezi River Authority (the Authority) officially handed over a newly constructed 1x2 classroom block to Musisa Primary School in Gwembe District through an administrative process on 17th July 2025. Though labelled a formality, the event turned into a heartwarming show of appreciation by the Musisa community.

This marks the second classroom block donated by the Authority to the school via the Zambezi Valley Development Fund (ZVDF), following the first in July 2024. Musisa Primary, established around 15 years ago, was created to serve learners from seven surrounding villages—a combined population of over 8,200 people - who previously endured a 20 km walk to schools at Gwembe Plateau and Hioma.

Currently catering to 194 pupils supported by eight dedicated teachers, Musisa Primary plays a vital role in the community. The newly handed over classrooms replace makeshift structures and open-air teaching areas that were prone to disruptions from harsh weather. These permanent structures now offer a safe and conducive learning environment that supports the dignity and well-being of both pupils and teachers.

Although no formal ceremony was planned, the community’s heartfelt gesture - complete with ribbon cutting and traditional songs - spoke volumes. Their appreciation was palpable and echoed the critical impact this continued support from the Authority has had on their children’s education.

The Gwembe District Education Board Secretary confirmed that desks have also been provided through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), completing the learning space. The handover was witnessed by key local stakeholders, including the Acting District Commissioner, Education Officers, PTA members, Council representatives, and the school headmaster.

This milestone is a clear testament to the Authority’s continued commitment to enhancing education access in the communities around its operations.
